A Meta Analysis of Risk and Protective Factors for Depression in Elderly Women

Abstract
As a meta-analysis, the purpose of this study was to provide evidence based on practice and academic basic data by analyzing factors comprehensively and systematically which affect depression in elderly women. 102 data in 26 studies done between January 2000 and December 2014 in Korea and appropriate for the standard of selection were used for meta-analyzing. As a result, overall effect size of risk factors was at a middle level(Zr = 0.365) and the largest factor was found to be one¡¯s subjective health status, stress, activities of daily life and death anxiety in order of size. Overall effect size of protective factors was also at a middle level(Zr = -0.341) and the largest factor turned out to be life satisfaction, self-esteem, family support, social activities, economic status and social support in order of size. Of these variables, life satisfaction has the largest effect size. Moderator factor was found to be a type of independent variables in risk factors, and a type of independent variables, publication and scale in protective factors.
